Clint’s current workout: Phase II of Visual Impact

Update 3rd July, 2012

I now cycle my very own program (Reveal The Steel) year round and no longer use Visual Impact. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great program, but what I’ve come up with is completely different, and works for me a lot more long-term.

—-

As you may have read previously, I’m currently the test dummy for Rusty Moore’s Visual Impact program.

I don’t adhere to fads nor gimmicks (how’d you guess that?), so i was skeptical at first, but then I got to know Rusty and his style of teaching over at fitnessblackbook.com.

As I leafed through the program, I came to realise that the guy might just know what he’s talking about.

Normally i can point out a few flaws or things I disagree with, but it all seems pretty water tight.

However, I don’t take everything that’s written down as gospel (except tabloid newspaper articles of course), so I’ve decided to test his ebook and see if it cuts all kinds of serious mustard.

How far am I into Visual Impact

I’m 4 months into a 6 month program and at the end of Phase II.

What I’ve learned

I tire a lot more easily than I’d have thought on this program. If I don’t cop enough zees at night, getting up for a 6am workout is a downright chore. That being said, it’s an advanced approach and requires a strict adherence. I can deal with that.

What I’ve gained

Serious strength gains. As an example, I went up from 40kg barbell curls to 50kg barbell curls.

I also added epic amounts to my dead lifts clocking in at 140kg for 4 reps (up from a max lift of 130kg for 1 rep).

What I’ve lost

Hey, I love to eat, so I knew losing fat during this phase would be near impossible, so I decided to up my calories. In the next phase (starting monday), ill go back to a just below a maintenance level of calories (not a guarantee if slow cooked food pops up on the menu however).

Special note

As with most training regimens, the longer you’ve been training, the harder it will be to see any major visible results.

The big improvements I see are notably in terms of increased muscle density and serious strength.

And that my friends, is a good thing.

    Visual Impact was a great program for me. While I’m taking a break from it now, I’m going to start again after Thanksgiving to prepare for next summer!

    Sounds like the results are happening pretty quickly. It will be interesting how you feel about the last phase which has been designed for strength gains. Great program I’d recommend everybody should have a look at it.

    @Dave
    Its great as its phased with plenty of variety. Plus, you can alter it to suit your needs as nothing is set in stone but great as a guide.

    @Raymond
    Im looking forward to the shrink-wrapping bonus phase. I think that’s where the most ‘visual’ results will occur.
